We are God-Centered, Christ-Exalting, Gospel-Preaching, Bible-Saturated and Discipleship-Producing

There are a lot of ways to plug in at FBC Bolingbrook, but a good place to start is our Sunday Worship Service, which starts at 11:00 am. We'd love to have you join us this Sunday as we worship the Lord, celebrate the Gospel, and study God's Word together.

Our Leaders

Vaughn Sanders

Leading Teaching Pastor / Elder

I'm a native of St. Louis and a graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia with a Bachelors in Interdisciplinary Studies. I also have a Master's in Information Systems Management specializing in Information Security. By trade I'm a Cyber Security Professional but have sensed the call to ministry from the time I professed my faith in Christ and was baptized in high school.

I have been a member of First Baptist Bolingbrook since 2011 and served as Deacon before being called to the office of Elder in 2015 and then Lead Teaching Pastor in 2018. I am grateful to have found my passion and purpose in preaching and teaching God's Word. My wife Libby and I were married in 2000 while we were students at Mizzou. Together we have two children, Jonah and Jamiah. We enjoy our trips together as a family trying various food and restaurants. In my spare time you'll find me trying to perfect my own technique on my grill and smoker at home.

Our Beliefs

God and Creation

We believe that we are not our own but belong, body and soul, both in life and in death, to God and to our Savior Jesus Christ. (Romans 14:7-8)
We believe God is the creator and sustainer of everyone and everything. He is eternal, infinite, and unchangeable in his power and perfection, goodness and glory, wisdom, justice, and truth. Nothing happens except through him and by his will. (Psalm 86:8-10, 15)
We believe there are three persons in the one true and living God: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. They are the same in substance, equal in power and glory. (2 Corinthians 13:14)
We believe God created us male and female in his own image to know him, love him, live with him, and glorify him. And it is right that we who were created by God should live to his glory. (Genesis 1:27)
We believe God created all things by his powerful Word, and all his creation was very good; everything flourished under his loving rule. (Genesis 1:31)
We believe that we glorify God by enjoying him, loving him, trusting him. And by obeying his will, commands, and law. (Deuteronomy 11:1)

Fall and The Law

We believe that the law of God requires personal, perfect, and perpetual obedience; that we love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength; and love our neighbor as ourselves. What God forbids should never be done and what God commands should always be done. (Matthew 22:37-40)
We believe that the law of God is summarized in the Ten Commandments. (Exodus 20:1-21 and Deuteronomy 5:1-22)
We believe that God required in the first commandment that we know and trust him as the only true and living God.
We believe that God required in the second commandment that we avoid all idolatry and do not worship him improperly.
We believe that God required in the third commandment that we treat his name with fear and reverence, honoring also his Word and works.
We believe that God required in the fourth commandment that on the Sabbath day we spend time in public and private worship of God, rest from routine employment, serve him and others, and so anticipate the eternal Sabbath.
We believe that God required in the fifth commandment that we each love and honor our father and mother, submitting to their godly discipline and direction.
We believe that God required in the sixth commandment that we do not hurt, or hate, or be hostile to our neighbor, but be patient and peaceful, pursuing even our enemies with love.
We believe that God required in the seventh commandment that we abstain from sexual immorality and live purely and faithfully, whether in marriage or in single life, avoiding all impure actions, looks, words, thoughts, or desires, and whatever might lead to them.
We believe that God required in the eighth commandment that we do not take without permission that which belongs to someone else, nor withhold any good from someone we might benefit.
We believe that God required in the ninth commandment that we do not lie or deceive, but speak the truth in love.
We believe that God required in the tenth commandment that we are content, not envying anyone or resenting what God has given them or us.
We believe that since the fall, no mere human has been able to keep the law of God perfectly, but consistently breaks it in thought, word, and deed. (Romans 3:10-12)
We believe that God did not create us unable to keep his law, but because of the disobedience of our first parents, Adam and Eve, all of creation is fallen; we are all born in sin and guilt, corrupt in our nature and unable to keep God's law. (Romans 5:12)
We believe that even though no one can keep the law, the purpose of God's law is to expose us to the holy nature and will of God, and the sinful nature and disobedience of our hearts; and thus our need of a Savior. The law also teaches and exhorts us to live a life worthy of our Savior. (Romans 3:20)
We believe sin is rejecting or ignoring God in the world he created, rebelling against him by living without reference to him, not being or doing what he requires in his law—resulting in our death and disintegration of all creation. (1 John 3:4)
We believe idolatry is trusting in created things rather than the Creator for our hope and happiness, significance and security. (Romans 1:21, 25)
We believe that God will not allow our disobedience and idolatry to go unpunished. Every sin is against the sovereignty, holiness, and goodness of God, and against his righteous law, and God is righteously angry with our sins and will punish them in his just judgment both in this life, and in the life to come. (Ephesians 5:5-6)
We believe that there is a way to escape punishment and be brought back into God's favor. To satisfy his justice, God himself, out of mere mercy, reconciles us to himself and delivers us from sin and from the punishment for sin, by a Redeemer. (Isaiah 53:10-11)
We believe that the only Redeemer is the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, in whom God became man and bore the penalty for sin himself. (1 Timothy 2:5)

Christ, Redemption, and Grace

We believe that a Redeemer who is truly human and also truly God is needed to bring us back to God. (Isaiah 9:6)
We believe that the Redeemer must be truly human in order that in human nature he might on our behalf perfectly obey the whole law and suffer the punishment for human sin; and also that he might sympathize with our weaknesses. (Hebrews 2:17)
We believe that the Redeemer must be truly God in order that, because of his divine nature, his obedience and suffering would be perfect and effective; and also that he would be able to bear the righteous anger of God against sin and yet overcome death. (Acts 2:24)
We believe that it was necessary for Christ, the Redeemer, to die in order for us to be saved. Since death is the punishment for sin, Christ died willingly in our place to deliver us from the power and penalty of sin and bring us back to God. By his substitutionary atoning death, he alone redeems us from hell and gains for us forgiveness of sin, righteousness, and everlasting life. (Colossians 1:21-22)
We believe that Christ's death means all our sin can be forgiven. Because Christ's death on the cross fully paid the penalty for our sin, God graciously imputer Christ's righteousness to us as if it were our own and will remember our sins no more. (2 Corinthians 5:21)
We believe that Christ's death is the beginning of the redemption and renewal of every part of fallen creation, as he powerfully directs all things for his glory and creation's good. (Colossians 1:19-20)
We believe that, though all people are lost through Adam, not all people are saved through Christ. Only those who are elected by God and united to Christ by faith. Nevertheless God in his mercy demonstrates common grace even to those who are not elect, by restraining the effects of sin and enabling works of culture for human well-being. (Romans 5:17)
We believe that at the day of judgment those not united to Christ by faith will receive the fearful but just sentence of condemnation pronounced against them. They will be cast out from the favorable presence of God, into hell, to be justly and grievously punished, forever. (John 3:16-18, 36)
We believe that we can be saved only by faith in Jesus Christ and in his substitutionary atoning death on the cross; so even though we are guilty of having disobeyed God and are still inclined to all evil, nevertheless, God, without any merit of our own but only by pure grace, imputes to us the perfect righteousness of Christ when we repent and believe in him. (Ephesians 2:8-9)
We believe that faith in Jesus Christ is acknowledging the truth of everything that God has revealed in his Word, trusting in him, and also receiving and resting on him alone for salvation as he is offered to us in the gospel (Galatians 2:20)
We believe true faith affirms everything taught by us in the gospel. The Apostle's Creed expresses what we believe in these words: We believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. (Jude 1:3)
We believe justification and sanctification are necessary for the Christian. Justification means our declare righteousness before God, made possible by Christ's death and resurrection for us. Sanctification means our gradual, growing righteousness, made possible by the Spirit's work in us. (1 Peter 1:1-2)
We believe that those who have saving faith in Christ do not seek their salvation through their own works, or anywhere else. Everything necessary to salvation is found in Christ. To seek salvation through good works is a denial that Christ is the only Redeemer and Savior. (Galatians 2:16)
We believe that though we are redeemed by grace alone, through Christ alone, we must still do good works and obey God's Word because Christ, having redeemed us by his blood, also renews us by his Spirit; so that our lives must may show love and gratitude to God; so that we may be assured of our faith by his fruits; and so that by our godly behavior others may be won to Christ. (1 Peter 2:9-12)
We believe that all the gifts we receive from Christ we receive through the Holy Spirit, including faith itself. (Titus 3:4-6)

The Holy Spirit, Restoration, and Growing In Grace

We believe that the Holy Spirit is God, coeternal with the Father and the Son, and that God grants him irrevocably to all who believe. (John 14:16-17)
We believe that the Holy Spirit convicts us of our sin, comforts us, gives us spiritual gifts and the desire to obey God, and he enables us to pray and to understand God's Word. (Ephesians 6:17-18)
We believe prayer is pouring out our hearts to God in praise, petition, confession of sin, and thanksgiving. (Psalm 62:8)
We believe that prayer should be offered in with an attitude of love, perseverance, and gratefulness; in humble submission to God's will, knowing that, for the sake of Christ, he always hears our prayers. (Philippians 4:6)
We believe that the whole Word of God directs and inspires us in what we should pray, including the prayer Jesus himself taught us. (Ephesians 3:14-21)
We believe Jesus taught us to pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. (Matthew 6:5-13)
We believe that the Word of God is to be read and heard with diligence, preparation, and prayer, so that we may accept it with faith, store it in our hearts, and practice it in our lives. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
We believe that the ordinances given by God and instituted by Christ, namely baptism and the Lord's Supper, are visible signs and seals that we are bound together as a community of faith by his death and resurrection. By our use of them the Holy Spirit more fully declares the promises of the gospels to us. (Romans 6:4 and Luke 22:19-20)
We believe baptism is the washing with water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; it signifies our adoption into Christ, our cleansing from sin, and our commitment to belong to the Lord and to his Church. We also believe that baptism following a Christian's conversion and enacted through immersion follows best the pattern seen in the Scriptures. (Matthew 28:19)
We believe that baptism is not itself the washing away of sin. Only the blood of Christ and the renewal of the Holy Spirit can cleanse us from sin. (Luke 3:16)
We believe that Christ commanded all Christians to eat bread and drink from the cup in thankful remembrance of him and his death. The Lord's Supper is a celebration of the presence of God in our midst, bringing us into communion with God and with one another, and feeding and nourishing our souls. It also anticipates the day when we will eat and drink with Christ in his Father's kingdom. (1 Corinthians 11:23-26)
We believe that the Lord's Supper does not add anything to Christ's atoning work. Christ died once for all. The Lord's Supper is a covenant meal celebrating Christ's atoning work. It is also a means of strengthening our faith as we look to him, and a foretaste of the future feast. But those who take part with unrepentant hearts eat and drink judgment on themselves. (1 Peter 3:18)
We believe that God chooses and preserves for himself a community elected for eternal life and united by faith, who love, follow, learn from, and worship God together. God sends out this community to proclaim the gospel and prefigure Christ's kingdom by the quality of their life together and their love to one another. We call this community the Church. (2 Thessalonians 2:13)
We believe that our mission as a church involves making fully devoted disciples of Jesus Christ who believe the gospel, belong to God, and are becoming like Christ in character and lifestyle. We do this by living out the Great Commission. (Matthew 28:18-20)
We believe Christ rose bodily from the grave on the third day after his death and is seated at the right hand of the Father, ruling his kingdom and interceding for us, until he returns to judge and renew the whole world. (Ephesians 1:19-21)
We believe that Christ triumphed over sin and death by being physically resurrected, so that all who trust in him are raised to new life in this world and to everlasting life in the world to come. Just as we will one day be resurrected, so this world will one day be restored. But those who do not trust in Christ will be raised to everlasting death. (1 Thessalonians 4:13-14)
We believe that Christ physically ascended on our behalf, just as he came down to earth physically on our account, and he is now advocating for us in the presence of his Father, preparing a place for us, and that he also sends us his Spirit. (Romans 8:34)
We believe that the hope of everlasting life reminds us that this present fallen world is not all there is. Soon we will live with and enjoy God forever in the new city, in the new heaven and the new earth, where we will be fully and forever freed from all sin and will inhabit renewed, resurrection bodies in the renewed, restored creation. (Revelation 21:1-4)

Our Purpose

We exist to GROW, THRIVE, & SERVE. We (individually and corporately) were created by God to live for his glory. We believe we do this best by keeping the Gospel ever-before our eyes, connecting every gathering and ministry to the "good news" of salvation that Christ has accomplished for his people by his life, death, and resurrection.

We take seriously his command to proclaim the Gospel and make disciples of all nations. As a church we strive to make fully devoted disciples of Jesus who believe the Gospel, belong to God, and are becoming like Jesus. We do this by living out the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20).

Children's Ministry

We have a variety of ministries and activities for kids, including things like musical productions, fun gatherings, and Vacation Bible Schools.

Here are a few examples:

The Gospel Project for Kids: This is a great study that takes our children through the entire Bible, connecting each story to what Christ has done for our salvation. It's filled with all kinds of fun activities, videos, and learning exercises. We have classes for all ages that meet during our Sunday School hour, every Sunday at 9:45 am. And parents, don't worry we have classes available for you too!

Children's Church: Every Sunday our children join us for the singing portion of our 11:00 am morning worship service. Once the preaching starts, we dismiss the children to Children's church where they are treated to a Bible Study that's designed with their ages in mind. This is completely optional, so parents if you would rather have your children in with you for service we welcome that. Just know that the children's church service is there if they ever want to attend it.

Youth Ministry

We have a wonderful Youth Group here at First Baptist! Youth from 6th grade to 12th grade are invited.

The Youth Group meets weekly on Sundays at 6:30 pm in the Youth Area. Each meeting includes games in the game room, fun activities, socializing, entertainment, and most importantly time learning and discussing God's Word. We hope you can join us this week. In addition to the weekly gathering, the Youth Group does various service and missions projects, trips and lock-ins, and much, much more. If you have questions, contact the church and we will fill you in on what is on the horizon.

Seasoned Adult Ministry (S.A.M)

Here at First Baptist Church we have a wonderful Seasoned Adults Ministry because we have wonderful senior adults.

Our seniors have access to all the adult ministries of the church and a few ministries that are just for them. In addition to periodic recreation outings and ministry projects, they also come together for a monthly S.A.M. ("Seasoned Adults Ministry") gathering.

At S.A.M. we share lunch, encouragement, Bible Study, reflection, and all-around great fellowship. Frequently there are guest speakers who keep us updated on various ministries and community resources available to seniors. It truly is an uplifting and beneficial time for all involved, so mark your calendars and join the fun. The S.A.M. gathering takes place at the church on the first Wednesday of every month.

Missions

When the Lord commanded his disciples to "make disciples," he meant it. Part of that command involves "going" and so we strive to be a going church with the goal to SERVE Bolingbrook and the greater community.

In addition to local mission work, hunger ministry, and supporting missionaries and mission organizations financially, we also take teams to be missionaries in other locations outside of Bolingbrook. The last few years we have taken teams to Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and the Baptist Childrens' Home in Illinois.

"When people say that they don't 'feel close to Jesus,' I ask them if they are making disciples. After all, his promise to be with us is directly tied to his command to make disciples. While every Christian wants to experience the power of the Holy Spirit, we often forget that the Spirit's power is given for the purpose of being his witnesses. Experiencing God, which is the longing of every true believer, happens when we are being his witnesses and making disciples." (Francis Chan)

Community Groups

We believe that God created us and gifted us for community. Our community groups are a way we try to develop and maintain real and meaningful community.

Our community groups help us to GROW in our relationship with Jesus Christ. We also recognize that diversity is a beautiful thing, so we have tried to offer a variety of community groups so that every one can find at least one that is a good fit. Each group is truly unique.

Our current community groups include: GENERAL community groups that center on different topics or biblical books. There are groups organized by GENDER because, let's face it, sometimes it's good to be with people who have the same chromosomes. And there are GENERATIONAL groups, organized by age.
